This Day In NCHSAA History

September 2, 2000 On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Burns’ Cline Ingle booted the longest field goal in NCHSAA history when he kicked a 61 yarder against Shelby. Fittingly, he eclipsed the old NCHSAA record of 58 yards set by Shelby’s Tyler Ashe in 1995.

August 30, 1968 On this day on history in the NCHSAA, Wilson’s Fike High School opened defense of its North Carolina High School Athletic Association state football championship but was shut out by Winston-Salem RJ. Reynolds 9-0.  However, Fike rebounded under head coach Henry Trevathan and went on to win the ’68 crown.
