Student-Athlete Accident and Parent Purchase Voluntary Student-Athlete Insurance
In North Carolina high school athletics, additional voluntary student-athlete accident coverage from $0 – $25,000, with internal limits, can be purchased by the Parents/Guardians as an additional supplement. As a service and resource, the NCHSAA is partnered with McGriff, who can offer School Purchased Student Athletics and Catastrophic Insurance along with Parent/Guardian purchased Voluntary Student-Athlete Accident insurance.
If you have questions related to either type of insurance, please contact your school/school district, or you may contact a representative of McGriff to learn more about their products and services.

Catastrophic Insurance for Schools
Member schools must purchase catastrophic insurance for all students and personnel participating in interscholastic athletic activity every year. In 2021, legislation was passed that changed how NCHSAA Member schools purchased catastrophic insurance. Public and charter schools may buy insurance through the N.C. Department of Insurance.
