CHAPEL HILL— Kelis Hicks of Southern Durham High School and Dakari Johnson of Hoke County High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Hicks, a freshman on the Spartans Indoor Track and Field team had a phenomenal performance at the NC Runners Holiday Invite. She placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet and 4 inches. This distance gave her a #1 Ranking in the NHCSAA 3A Classification. She also placed 3rd in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet 5 ½ inches, which is a NCHSAA #2 ranking in the 3A classification.
Johnson, a senior guard on the Fighting Bucks Men’s Basketball team, led Hoke County to a 2-0 record in conference play last week. He led the team with 20 points including three 3’s in the second half in Hoke County’s 69-62 win over Scotland. Against Richmond County, Johnson put up 14 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in the 92-69 win over the Raiders.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in late April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
