CHAPEL HILL – Cam Gill from Salisbury High School and Chase Gilley from East Lincoln High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Gill, a senior on the Salisbury football team, had a great night for the Hornets on special teams and defense. Gill had 3 interceptions and 3 touchdowns in Salisbury’s 49-18 win over West Davidson. He had a punt return, interception and fumble return for touchdowns. In total, Gill gained 303 yards on the night.
Gilley, a junior on the East Lincoln Men’s soccer team, led the Mustangs to two wins last week. In a 6-2 win over Lake Norman Charter, Gilley scored 3 goals. He recorded another hat trick in a win against Lincolnton. Gilley converted on a penalty kick in penalty shootouts to lift East Lincoln over Lincolnton for the Mustangs first ever victory at Lincolnton.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in early May. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
