CHAPEL HILL— MaKenna Raye Dark from Eastern Alamance High School and Day’ron Sharpe from South Central High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Dark, a freshman on the Eastern Alamance softball team pitched 14 complete innings finishing the week with a 2-0 record. She struck out 30 of the 42 batters she faced, while only giving up 3 hits and 4 walks. Dark also got it done with the bat, hitting a solo home run and driving in 3 RBI’s.
Sharpe, a senior on the Falcon’s basketball team, scored 23 points on nine of 15 shooting from the field. He also grabbed 13 rebounds, while recording three blocks and five assists on his way to being named the Charlie Adams Most Valuable Player, leading South Central to victory in the 4A Men’s Basketball State Championship.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
