CHAPEL HILL— Taylor Payne of Alexander Central High School and Tyler Petit of Rosman High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Payne, a senior, went 7 for 11 at the plate with 2 doubles, 3 home runs, and 11 runs batted in for three games last week against North Lincoln, Lake Norman and East Wilkes. In the East Wilkes game, Payne went 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 home runs in three straight at bats along with 9 runs batted in. The 3 home runs in one game is an Alexander Central record as is the 9 runs batted in during one game.
Petit, also a senior, went 5 for 11 at the plate with 3 runs, 7 runs batted in, a home run, a 2 base hit and 3 walks. He helped his team to 3-0 play last week with wins over Robbinsville, Brevard, and Swain County. Petit is leading his team in runs batted in on the season with 14 and has a team-leading 3 doubles through six games on the year.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
