STUDENTS FROM SOUTH BRUNSWICK, CHAPEL HILL EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS
CHAPEL HILL— Tyler Bowersox of South Brunswick High School and Claire DeSelm of Chapel Hill High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Bowersox, a junior, swam in the NCHSAA 3A Eastern Regionals this past week and medaled in four events, earning three silver and one bronze medal. Individually he placed second in both the 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Breaststroke. In relays, his team placed second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. All four swims for Bowersox were school records as he led the South Brunswick Cougars to an overall third place finish at Regionals.
Like Bowersox, DeSelm also had a spectacular performance in the NCHSAA 3A Eastern Regionals, placing first in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, 100 Yard Butterfly, 400 Yard Freestyle Relay and a second place team effort in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. She was recognized as a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in her sophomore and junior years.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
