CHAPEL HILL— Maya McDonald from East Bladen High School and Alex London from Carson High School, have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
McDonald, a Junior on the East Bladen Soccer team, recorded 15 goals and 3 assists in 3 wins this past week. Maya set a school record with 5 goals on Monday against West Bladen. This record was short-lived as she scored 6 goals on Wednesday against St. Pauls. Her record of 6 goals on Wednesday goes down in the NCHSAA record books as tied for the 31st most goals in a single game.
London, a Senior on the Carson Football team, led the Cougars to a thrilling 56-55 Overtime win against South Iredell in their season finale Friday night. London finished the game 25-34 for 296 yards and 4 touchdowns.
