CHAPEL HILL— Claire Curzan from Cardinal Gibbons High School and Sam Hoover from Chapel Hill High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.

Hoover, a senior on the Chapel Hill High School swim team, led the program to their seventh team state championship, capturing the 3A men’s Most Outstanding Swimmer award along the way.  Hoover set a new state record in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 43.10 seconds and a new 3A state meet record in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:35.57.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m. through the online form that can be found here.
