WEEK 19 | Students from Panther Creek Earn Performance of the Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Panther Creek High School student-athletes, Morgan Smalls and Jordan Payne have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.

Smalls, a senior on the Panther Creek Indoor Track & Field team, won the 200 Meter Dash, the Triple Jump, and the High Jump at the Virginia Showcase this weekend.  Her Triple Jump mark of 42’10” is tops in North Carolina history among high school girls and her 6’0” High Jump currently ranks number 1 in the country.

Payne, a senior on the Panther Creek Indoor Track & Field team, had a strong showing at the Virginia Invitational as well.  The senior set the top North Carolina mark for the Triple Jump at 47’11” which also ranks fifth in the country.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
