WEEK 16 | Students from Ashe County and Southern Nash Earn Performance of the Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Audrey Craven from Ashe County High School and Quinton Cooley from Southern Nash High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.

Craven, a junior on the Ashe County Basketball team, scored 30 points in a win over Avery County last week.  She broke the school record for most threes made in a game going 9-13 from behind the arc.  Craven is currently averaging 16.7 points per game early in the season.

Cooley, a senior on the Southern Nash Football team, led the Firebirds to a 32-29 victory in the 3A Eastern Regional Finals against Eastern Alamance.  Cooley carried the ball 46 times for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns.  According to MaxPreps, Cooley leads the state in rushing this season with 2,633 yards and 45 touchdowns.  His accomplishment of 45 touchdowns this season is tied for 11th all-time for rushing touchdowns in a single season in NCHSAA history.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
