WEEK 7 | Students From East Davidson and East Lincoln Earn Performance of the Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Summer Watkins from East Davidson High School and Logan Gilley from East Lincoln High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.

Watkins a senior on the East Davidson Cross Country team set the top mark in the state for the Three-Mile Run on October 3 with a time of 19:59.97. Her performance helped the Golden Eagles’ Girl’s Cross-Country Team finish first at the Davidson County Cross Country Championship.

Gilley had 7 goals and 2 assists for the Mustangs last week and has helped East Lincoln to a 14-0 record this season. Gilley started off the week with 2 goals and 2 assists vs. Maiden, followed up by adding 2 goals vs. West Lincoln. He capped off the week with a hat trick, scoring 3 goals against Pine Lake Prep.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
