NCHSAA Hall of Fame Member, Ronald Scott, Passed Away

Coach Scott was part of the 2007 NCHSAA Hall of Fame class.

BEAR CREEK, NC (December 8, 2023) – Chatham County Schools and the Chatham Central High School community suffered a huge loss on Friday with the passing of Ronald Glenn Scott. Coach Scott was a teacher, baseball coach, athletic director, and longtime supporter of CCHS. Coach Scott worked at CCHS from 1959-2016, joining the school shortly after it opened, and became CCHS Athletic Director in the 1960-61 school year. He served in that role until 1985-86.

Coach Scott built a solid baseball program at CCHS during his 36 years as head coach, earning 520 wins on the field, and a 2-A state championship in 1976. The CCHS baseball field was named “Ronald Scott Field” in May 1992, and 1995 was the last year he coached the program. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the NCHSAA in 1996.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Polly O. Yow Auditorium at CCHS, with Pastor Jody Maness, Pastor Robert Kidd, and John Wayne Phillips presiding. The family will receive friends in the auditorium one hour prior to the service. The burial will be private.
