The NCHSAA joins the Swain County community as they mourn the death of long-time athletic trainer Carrie Powell.
Powell served as Swain County’s athletic trainer for 20 years and was a beloved community member.
Ken Brown, former Health & Safety Consultant for the NCHSAA, described Carrie as a compelling role model to her peers. Brown states: “She displayed great compassion and stellar clinical skills for those fortunate athletes under her care. This article in the Smoky Mountain Times elaborates on Carrie’s dedication to the health and safety of the student-athletes under her care.
Carrie was recognized as the NCHSAA’s Elton Hawley Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2021.
