For the second year in a row, Langtree Charter’s Nikhil Deshpande earns 1A Men’s Individual Tennis State Championship honors in singles with 6-2 and 6-4 wins over opponent Georgie Kriek of Mount Airy High School. In doubles action, Nate Bermeo and Noah Marsico of Eno River Academy top Mount Airy’s duo of Carson Hill and Kannon Strickland 3-6, 6-4, and 6-4 to claim 1A State Championship in doubles play.
In 2A Men’s Individual Tennis Championships, singles state championship honors go to Alphonso Sison of Franklin Academy in his 6-4 and 6-0 wins over Ryan Hill of Raleigh Charter. Meanwhile, Community School of Davidson’s doubles team of Luke Breen and Jack Shields walks away as doubles State Champions in an exciting 6-1, 6-3 play against Lex Gu and Joshua Lee from Raleigh Charter.
3A Men’s Individual Tennis Championships singles presented a rematch featuring Drew Hedgecoe of Terry Sanford High School against Josh Mayhew of Cedar Ridge High. Hedgecoe came out on top for the 2nd year in a row to beat Mayhew 6-0, 6-0 for State Champion rights. In doubles action, Griffin Lovern and Graham Powers of Hickory High School defeat Jonas Miyagawa and Wesley Hanes of Carrboro High to clutch the doubles State Champion title, 6-2, 7-6(5).
Pinecrest High’s Marshall Landry is the singles State Champion in the 4A Men’s Individual Tennis Championships with 7-6 (7-3) and 3-2 retire match play over Ellis Klanduch of Lake Norman High School. For the second year in a row, Leesville Road High School claims the doubles State Championship title, represented in this year’s finals by Sammy Presser and Cameron Lange in 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 play over Providence High School’s duo of Daniel Rohlman and Grant Partridge.
