Each year, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) recognizes a school that truly embodies integrity, competitive spirit, and achievement both on and off the field. This prestigious honor highlights programs that go beyond wins and losses to demonstrate character, leadership, and academic success.
For 2025-2026, Athens Drive High School has earned this distinguished recognition.
Athens Drive set itself apart with exceptional sportsmanship throughout the entire season—finishing the year without a single ejection. This remarkable accomplishment speaks volumes about the culture fostered by its student-athletes, coaches, and broader school community.
Leadership at Athens Drive extended well beyond competition. The school actively participated in the NCHSAA Student Leadership Summit, submitted an application for the Commissioner’s Cup, and contributed representation on the NCHSAA Student-Athlete Advisory Council. These efforts reflect a strong investment in shaping the future of high school athletics.
Academically, Athens Drive’s student-athletes continued to excel, maintaining cumulative GPAs between 3.0 and 3.29. Their performance underscores a commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as in competition.
Through outstanding sportsmanship, meaningful leadership, and solid academic achievement, Athens Drive High School has exemplified what it means to be a model athletic program—making them a deserving recipient of the 2026 NCHSAA Exemplary School of the Year award.
