The members of the Board of Directors and the staff members of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) are deeply saddened by the passing of Mark Byrd.  He was a great supporter of high school athletics in North Carolina throughout his career, as well as during his time as a member of the Board of Directors for the NCHSAA. 

Mark Byrd’s family and Wilkes County Schools are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  Without a doubt, the state of North Carolina has lost a great person, a great superintendent, and a great friend of the public schools.
