2025 Lacrosse Championship Game Notes

1A/2A/3A Men

Lake Norman Charter vs. Croatan

The Lake Norman Charter Knights are making their fourth straight appearance in the 1A/2A/3A Men’s Lacrosse Championship Game and they are 3-0 in the last three championship matches. Croatan is making its NCHSAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Match debut. The Cougars are 20-2 this season losing only to Apex Friendship in early March and Heritage 12-11 in late April. They have outscored opponents 333-134 this season. The Knights are 19-6 this season and currently on a nine-game winning streak. The Knights have outscored opponents 332-169 this year. 

1A/2A/3A Women

Bishop McGuinness vs. Union Pines

The 2025 1A/2A/3A Women’s Lacrosse Championship is a rematch of the 2024 title game where Union Pines won 20-6. This is the third consecutive year that Bishop McGuinness has appeared in the championship match but they are 0-2 in their previous two showings. This is the second appearance for the Vikings. This season, the Vikings are 13-6 overall and 8-2 in their conference (a combo of United 8, All-American and Sandhills conferences). The Villains are 20-3 overall this year and 8-0 in their league (Mid-State/Mid Piedmont/NW Piedmont Conferences). 

4A Men

Cardinal Gibbons vs. Lake Norman

The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders are making their eighth appearance in the NCHSAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Match and they are 6-1 in their previous appearances, losing only in their debut in 2012. The Crusaders last appeared in the final in 2023, when they beat Charlotte Catholic 12-10. The Lake Norman Wildcats are playing the Championship Match for the seventh time and are looking for their third title. The Wildcats last in overtime last year to Green Level but previously won in 2018 and 2012 (against Cardinal Gibbons). 

This year, Lake Norman is 20-4 but with only one loss to a team in North Carolina. They met Cardinal Gibbons on March 22 and the Crusaders won 9-8 in Overtime. Gibbons is 23-2 this year, 10-0 in the Cap 6 Conference and undefeated against teams in North Carolina. 

4A Women

Cardinal Gibbons vs. Weddington

The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders are making their ninth appearance in the Women’s Lacrosse Championship Match missing only the 2021 final since 2015. They are 7-1 in the final match of the season have won each of the last three years. Weddington is making its second appearance in the Championship Match, having previously won the West Region in 2021. That year, the Warriors lost to East Chapel Hill 14-8 in the State Championship Match. This year the Crusaders are 17-5 but undefeated against teams from North Carolina and they went 10-0 in the CAP 6 conference. Weddington is 19-7 this year with an 8-2 conference record. These two teams met earlier this season at Weddington and the Crusaders won 9-7.
