CHAPEL HILL— Mac Russ, Marvin Ridge High School, and Abby Patterson from Panther Creek High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Russ, a senior on the Marvin Ridge Volleyball team, surpassed the 1,000th career kill mark last week. She helped lead the Mavericks to a 2-0 record while recording 25 kills, 8 aces, and 11 digs in their two conference wins.
Patterson, a senior on the Panther Creek Cross Country team, had a strong start to the season placing first in two Tri-8 matchups during the first week of competition. On Tuesday, Patterson posted a time of 21:32 and followed it up with a 19:34 victory later in the week.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
