Western Alamance Softball Player Has Excellent Year

Merritt Wilkinson of Western Alamance High School had an outstanding softball season as a senior in the spring, and her performance enables her to have several listings in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association on-line record book.

Wilkinson batted .616 for the season, collecting 45 hits in 73 official at-bats, and had 15 doubles for the 2013 year.

She wound up with a career batting average of .444 and had 141 hits for her Western Alamance career. None of these are state records but qualify as performance listings in the various categories.

Wilkinson will continue her career at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington this fall.

In addition, Jessica Griffin’s 11 home runs during the 2012 campaign for Western Alamance earned a performance listing in that category. The state record for homers in a season is 19.

We appreciate the submission of the records for consideration by the NCHSAA by coach Donna Deaton.
