CHAPEL HILL— Khaila Hall of West Rowan and Donshae Miller of Southside High School in Chocowinity are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.
Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Hall had a great week for her women’s basketball team at West Rowan, scoring 26 points in a 62-48 loss to Jesse Carson and then pouring in a career-best 34 points in a 57-50 victory on the road against Central Cabarrus. In addition to her 34 points, Hall pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out five assists, so her play directly accounted for 44 of her team’s 57 points.
Miller has been a leader for the Southside men’s basketball team for the last three seasons and last week hit a big milestone. Miller scored his 1,000th career point in a heart-pounding 67-65 triumph over county rival Northside. He had 19 points, six assists and four steals in the contest, including two clutch free throws with 8.6 seconds to go to lift his team to victory.
He had 20 points later in the week in a 75-46 victory over Bear Grass Charter and scored nine as the Seahawks lost to the powerful East Carteret club 82-50.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
