West Henderson Names New Men’s Basketball Coach

HENDERSONVILLE — West Henderson High School has announced that it has hired A.C. Reynolds men’s basketball coach Billy Phillips. Phillips will replace Rob Bliss, who resigned earlier to take a job at Fred T. Foard High School in Catawba County.

The school issued a press release about the hiring and it was also reported in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Phillips led the Rockets to the Mountain Athletic Conference title during the 2010-11 campaign as A.C. Reynolds finished with a 15-8 record. He earned the conference’s Coach of the Year award. Reynolds ended up falling 70-62 to East Mecklenburg in the first round of the 4-A state playoffs.

Phillips has been at ACR for the past four seasons. His other previous coaching experience includes being the assistant varsity coach and head JV coach at T.C. Roberson from 2002-2006 and a five-year stint at Apple Valley Middle School in Henderson County.

“We are excited to have Billy come to West Henderson,” West Henderson athletic director Kent Parent said. “He is a quality coach as well as an excellent teacher. We look forward to welcoming Billy, his wife Regina and his two sons, Davis and Cameron, to the West Henderson community.”
