A West Craven High School women’s basketball star reportedly snapped a North Carolina High School Athletic Association record last week during second round action in the NCHSAA playoffs.
Jamie Cherry, according to several media reports, knocked in 12 three-pointers in an 86-42 victory by West Craven over Triton.
Cherry wound up with 52 points on the night and has gone over the 3000-point mark for her career. According to the latest statistics, she is in third place all-time for NCHSAA career scoring with 3,151 points entering regional play.
The previous state record for three-pointers in a game was 11, held by Shannon Reid of South Caldwell against East Lincoln on Feb. 17, 1998 and by Michelle Williams of Northwest Guilford in a game against Parkland on Feb. 9, 2011.
