WEEK 3 | 2023-24 ORTHOCAROLINA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance.

The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week three of the NCHSAA competition are Claire Stewart from Cardinal Gibbons and Josh Collins from Swain County.

Stewart, a junior tennis athlete, rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles in the Crusaders’s conference opener against Sanderson on September 5th, leading Gibbons to a 9-0 win. Claire is undefeated on the season, currently standing at 7-0 in singles (at No. 1 and No. 2 positions) and 5-0 in doubles.

As a team, Cardinal Gibbons is also undefeated at 8-0 overall.

Collins, a senior running back and defensive back, ran for 334 yards on 35 carries last week and scored a pair of touchdowns and 2-point conversions. On special teams, he had two returns for 77 yards and on defense he had six tackles – two for a loss – and an interception in the endzone to stop what would have been a game-winning drive.

The Maroon Devils moved to 4-0 on the season with the 30-26 win over Tuscola.

Weekly recipients of the Performance of the Week award powered by OrthoCarolina will be recognized on the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Website and our Social Media pages. Get the orthopedic care you need in a way that works best for you: OrthoCarolina, your care, your way.
