WEEK 26 | 2023-24 ORTHOCAROLINA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media and school administrators for their outstanding performance.  

The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week 26 of NCHSAA competition are Peyton Lane from Riverside-Martin and Dominic Payne from Trinity.

Lane, a senior softball player for the Knights, led Riverside-Martin to three wins this week with her outstanding pitching performances. Peyton pitched three complete games allowing no runs and only two hits while tallying 48 total strikeouts. In their 15-0 victory over Louisburg she pitched a perfect game. Peyton was the definition of dominance, and played a crucial role in Riverside-Martin going 3-0 this week.

Payne, a senior men’s basketball player from Trinity, helped the Bulldogs defeat Hendersonville in the first round of the playoffs scoring 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. While the bulldogs didn’t overcome the #3 seed Newton Conover, Dominic had another great performance scoring 40 points and 6 rebounds. Dominic finished his high school career as Trinity’s 2nd all time leading scorer with 2,282 total points.
