Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media and school administrators for their outstanding performance.
The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week 20 of NCHSAA competition are Camryn Massey from Ashbrook and Rylan Parkins from McDowell.
Massey, a senior track and field athlete for the Green Wave, broke the Shot Put meet record this weekend with a personal best throw of 46-09.25. Massey holds the Ashbrook HS Shot Put record for Women’s Indoor Track & Field. Her accolades don’t stop there as she is ranked first in the State of NC and 3rd nationally for Shot Put.
Parkins, a junior power forward for the Titans, scored an outstanding 39 points and grabbed 22 rebounds against Asheville. He also added three blocks and three assists to his total. McDowell is now 13-2 on the season and undefeated in conference.
