Veteran Volleyball Coach Reaches Milestone

NEWTON—A veteran volleyball coach reached a significant milestone on Tuesday night, according to The Observer-News-Enterprise of Newton.

Linda Richards of Newton-Conover High School earned her 500th career coaching victory as Newton-Conover prevailed over Bunker Hill in a Southern District Seven Conference match.

The match went five sets, with Bunker Hill winning the opener 25-15 before the Lady Red Devils came back to win a pair of 25-20 sets. Bunker Hill won the fourth by 25-23 and then Newton-Conover prevailed in the finale by 15-11.

Richards has coached for 29 seasons, currently at Newton-Conover and prior to that at Fred T. Foard, and now has a stellar career mark of 500-101. She has guided teams to four North Carolina High School Athletic Association championships, wining three at Foard and then a 2011 crown at Newton-Conover.
