A junior running back from Vance High School in Mecklenburg County had a big night on Saturday that earned a performance listing in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book in football.
Donnavan Spencer held lead his team to a 48-35 triumph over Kannapolis A.L. Brown on Saturday night in a game postponed from Friday. According to the statistics submitted from Vance, Spencer carried the football 29 times for 405 yards and four touchdowns.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Spencer's performance was a Mecklenburg County record and it ranks in the top 30 all-time in the NCHSAA Record Book. The current state rushing record is 510 yards, held by T.J. Logan of Northern Guilford and set in 2012 in the NCHSAA state 3-AA championship game.
