MILLERS CREEK—One of the state’s most successful wrestling coaches is leaving his position at West Wilkes High School. according to the Wilkes Journal-Patriot.
Brian Brown, who has been head coach at West Wilkes for 10 seasons, is leaving teaching and coaching. His Blackhawks won seven conference wrestling championships in 10 years and have won four consecutive North Carolina High School Athletic Association dual team wrestling championships to go with three straight state tournament titles.
The Journal-Patriot also reported that seven different West wrestlers earned individual state championships under Brown’s tutelage.
West also announced that Kelly Nichols will take over the role as head wrestling coach.
