STUDENTS FROM WESTERN ALAMANCE & APEX EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Tess Meurling from Apex High School and Lexi Sox from Western Alamance High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Meurling, a senior captain of the Cougars Women’s Lacrosse team, led the team to three victories while scoring her 200thcareer high school goal, now just three away from being Apex High’s all-time leading scorer. She posted 10 goals in the three-game week, had five assists, 21 groundballs won, and five takeaways to go with her 84% draw percentage.

Sox, a junior catcher on the Western Alamance softball team powered the teams attack as they racked up three wins against top-tier 3A competition. Batting third, Sox went 9-1 in the three games, with five doubles, five runs scored and five RBI. She caught 22 innings behind the plate, picking off a runner at first, assisting in throwing out a runner at the plate after a wild pitch and made the put out on a runner attempting to score a go-ahead run in the seventh inning.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in late April.  The Performance of the Week program is now closed for the 2017-18 school year.  Please check back next year to nominate an athlete.
