On Tuesday March 20 the South Johnston Trojans hosted the Saints of Southern Wayne in an Eastern Carolina Conference baseball matchup. The Saints prevailed 4-2 in a very well played game. The unique part of the game was that the South Johnston team laid down their traditional green and gold uniforms and donned red jerseys (Southern Wayne is Blue and Red) in honor of former Southern Wayne standout Kevin Wise that passed away in his sleep this February. Pregame included a moment of silence by both teams to honor Kevin’s life and memory, and the jerseys the Trojans wore had Kevin’s initials and number on the back. It was a great show of sportsmanship and compassion by our guys and it helps remind us when we get caught up in the emotions of the game and the season, that there are more important things in life.
