MONROE— Veteran football coach Ron Massey has been named as the new head coach at Piedmont High School, according to media reports, including the Concord-Kannapolis Independent-Tribune.
Massey, who most recently coached at A.L. Brown in Kannapolis, was out of coaching last year. The 54-year-old coach came to Brown from Kings Mountain in 2000.
Massey has served as an assistant coach on the North Carolina Shrine Bowl staff and previously has been recognized by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association as one of the winners of the Homer Thompson Sportsmanship Award, “Eight Who Make a Difference,” in 2007.
Piedmont posted a 5-7 record a year ago and is slated to move to 3-A in the new realignment period.
