REIDSVILLE—Bill Walton has resigned as the head coach of the men’s basketball team at Reidsville High School due to health concerns, according to media reports including Rockingham Now.
Walton, who was in his ninth year at the Reidsville helm, will be replaced by Chris Carter.
Walton, only the third Reidsville head basketball coach since the 1940’s, joining Hoy Isaacs and Ron Parson, compiled a record of 145-72, including a mark of 26-4 two seasons ago.
Interim coach Carter is a former principal at Morehead as well as George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia, and had coached men’s basketball at the Virginia school.
Reidsville High Principal Elliot Miller released the following statement: “Unfortunately, Coach Walton had to step down from his post as Reidsville High School’s head basketball coach due to health concerns. Coach Walton has been dedicated to RHS athletics giving his service and time for over 10 years. He will continue to be a proud supporter of the Rams. We appreciate his years of dedicated service to Reidsville High and the Reidsville community.”
