PROVIDENCE GROVE SOFTBALL PLAYER RED HOT AT PLATE
CLIMAX— A Providence Grove High School softball player has earned her way into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book with a torrid performance at the plate.
Cassidy Brown of Providence Grove, her team’s second baseman who usually hits in the third slot in the lineup, had a string of hits in 13 consecutive at bats recently that spanned four games.
On April 17 she went three for four against Jordan-Matthews, with a hit in her last at bat. That was followed on April 19 by a four for four performance against Eastern Randolph. Then in a an April 24 doubleheader against Reidsville, she was perfect in eight trips to the plate, hitting safely all eight times and scoring six runs.
Her streak finally was snapped in the first at bat of a game on April 25 when she had a fly out to center field.
Brown collected eight singles, four doubles and a triple in those 13 consecutive at bats.
