POTW Week 29 Winners

Each week an athlete in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association is selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance. 

The OrthoCarolina Performer of the Week for week twenty-nine of NCHSAA competition goes to Ved Chotalia of Panther Creek High School and Taylor Apple of Western Alamance High School. 

Chotalia has played Singles 1 and Doubles 1 all season. He is undefeated in both. Most matches he drops 6 or less games in singles. On Monday (3/27) we played Green Hope. His singles score was 6-0, 6-2. During the doubles match his partner rolled his ankle. Ved helped him through the medical time out and they went on to win 8-4. On Wednesday (3/29) in our match against Apex Friendship Chotalia played one of the top 3 players in the conference in singles. He won that match 7- 6, 6-2. He had a different partner for doubles due to the injury on Monday. He and our number 4 player won 8-0. Chotalia is an outstanding player, a good teammate and strong academically. 

On Wednesday, 3/28 in an 11-0 non-conference victory over Randleman High School – Apple pitched a perfect game, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks, while striking out 10 batters.

Apple was also perfect at the plate going 3-for-3, while also drawing 1 walk. She drove in 4 runs on the game, highlighted by 3-run home run shot in the top of the first inning. She followed up Wednesday's performance in the circle with another stellar outing versus conference opponent Person County on Friday, 3/31. In a 6-2 victory, Apple struck out 19 batters to bring her season high to 135 strikeouts with a current ERA of 0.85. In Friday's win. Apple was also a big contributor to the Warriors' offense. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 (single, double). Her batting average is currently .515 and she leads the team with 5 home runs and hits (17).
