MONROE—Colby Barnette, one of the standouts who recently led Piedmont High School to a North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A baseball championship, has earned a couple of spots in the NCHSAA Record Book.
Barnette completed his Piedmont career with 127 runs batted in, good for a tie for sixth on the all-time RBI list. He banged out 45 hits this season to bring his career total to 148, which is the sixth-best career mark all-time in that category.
Barnette also was part of a feat on March 6, 2013, that is record worthy—the team hit two grand slams in a single inning. He and Cody Purser each hit bases-loaded home runs in the fourth inning of a Piedmont victory over Weddington.
We appreciate head coach Milt Flow of the state champions providing the appropriate documentation for the record applications.
