Pennington Is New AD at Western Alamance


        ELON–Mike Pennington is taking over the athletic director duties at Western Alamance, according to a report in the Burlington Times-News.

         Pennington, age 47, is an Eastern Alamance alumnus who spent 22 years as a coach at Northeast Guilford.  He moved over to Western Alamance to coach last year, coaching wrestling and men’s golf.  This year he will be coaching women’s golf in addition to his athletic director role.  He previously has experience as an assistant coach in football and baseball while also having worked with softball and swimming.

         Pennington assumes the athletic director duties from Carter Gerlach, a 1986 Western Alamance graduate who will continue as a math teacher at the school as well as the men’s basketball coach.  He had served as the AD since 2004.
