Senior, Seaforth High School, Pittsboro
After a fulfilling 1.5-year term on the inaugural National Student Advisory Council (NSAC) for the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), my time representing the eight states of Section 3 is coming to a close. I am incredibly honored to have had this opportunity and would like to extend my gratitude to my high school, Seaforth, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), and the NFHS for their support throughout this journey.
Over the past year and a half, the most meaningful part of this experience has been the relationships I’ve built with my fellow council members—fifteen incredible students from across the country, each with unique backgrounds, diverse experiences, and their own distinct leadership qualities. We connected through three in-person meetings, including the National Student Leadership Summit, as well as numerous virtual gatherings.
Throughout my time on the NSAC, I’ve had the privilege of presenting twice to the NFHS Student Services Committee, where I discussed challenges facing over 12 million high school student-athletes and performing arts students while offering recommendations for improvement. Additionally, I helped facilitate activities and contributed to presentations during the 2024 National Student Leadership Summit. I’ve also had the opportunity to serve as a liaison between Section 3 states and the NFHS, helping to spread awareness of and advocate for its initiatives.
I am deeply grateful to the NCHSAA for selecting me to represent North Carolina’s student-athletes and Section 3 member associations. While we acknowledge that change is a gradual process, we are proud to have initiated important conversations on a variety of topics, and we hope these discussions will continue to advance the work of the NFHS.
