NCHSAA announces 2019-2020 Wells Fargo Conference Cup Final Standings

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) will present the 2019-2020 Wells Fargo Conference Cup Champions to the top school in terms of total athletic performance in each conference across the state. The Wells Fargo Conference Cup is a companion to the Wells Fargo Cup and recognizes schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within individual conferences. Wachovia, and now Wells Fargo, has sponsored the conference awards program since 1980. In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points. Conferences are listed alphabetically by classification.

1A Conference Results

Albemarle 1A – Holmes collected this year’s conference cup. The Aces won conference championships in Football, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Indoor Track, and Wrestling. They also earned co-championships in Men’s and Women’s Basketball. 

Final Standings: 1) John A. Holmes – 37; 2) Manteo – 35; 3) Camden County – 28; 4) Perquimans – 24.5; 5) Gates County – 14; 6) Washington County – 13.5

Atlantic 5 1A – Cape Hatteras was the conference cup champion in the Atlantic 5. The Hurricanes won conference titles in all four sports they fielded teams, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Carolina 1A – Princeton won this edition of the conference cup. Princeton teams collected conference titles in Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, as well as Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field.

Central Tar Heel 1A – Research Triangle wrapped up a conference cup title. The Raptors won a conference championship in Women’s Cross Country, finishing second in Volleyball, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. 

Final Standings: 1) Research Triangle – 64.5; 2) Raleigh Charter – 56; 3) Cornerstone Charter – 43.5; 4) River Mill Academy – 41.5; 5) Chatham Charter – 39.5; 6) Woods Charter – 29.5; 7) Eno River Academy – 29; 8) Clover Garden School – 19.5.

Coastal Plains 1A – Pamlico County was the conference cup leader at the end of play this year. The Hurricanes won conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

North Central Athletic 1A – Voyager Academy was this year’s conference cup champion. The Vikings were conference champions in Men’s Soccer and Women’s Swimming and Diving this year finishing second five additional sports.

Northwest 1A – East Surry won the Northwest 1A conference cup after the fall season after winning three conference championships in Football, Women’s Golf and Volleyball. The Cardinals added a conference title in Women’s Basketball during the winter season.

PAC 7 1A – Community School of Davidson picked up the conference cup championship for 2019-2020. The Spartans took first place in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, while earning co-championships in Volleyball and Women’s Basketball.

Smoky Mountain 1A – Hayesville held on to win the conference cup in the Smoky Mountain 1A. Hayesville teams won conference championships in Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Basketball and Men’s Soccer to edge Murphy for the title.

Southern Piedmont 1A – Thomas Jefferson won the conference cup for 2019-2020, earning a single conference championship in Football. Thomas Jefferson picked up second place finishes in four other sports, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer and Wrestling to bolster their point total and edge Lincoln Charter.

Tar Roanoke 1A – North Edgecombe rolled to the conference cup title with five conference championships in 2019-2020. The Warriors won conference championships in Football, Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field, earning a co-championship in Volleyball.

Yadkin Valley 1A – Gray Stone Day and South Stanly tied for the conference cup title in the Yadkin Valley 1A. Gray Stone Day won conference championships in Men’s Soccer, Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. South Stanly picked up conference titles in Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, and a co-championship in Men’s Basketball.

1A/2A Split Conference Results

Coastal 8 1A/2A – Croatan dominated both the fall and winter seasons to collect their conference cup. The Cougars brought home conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, and Wrestling.

Mountain Valley 1A/2A – Ashe County collected the Mountain Valley 1A/2A conference cup. They won the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field conference titles and tied for first in Women’s Basketball.

Northern Carolina 1A/2A – Bunn edged Granville Central for the conference cup title. Bunn collected conference championships in Women’s Tennis and Wrestling to put the Wildcats over the top for 2019-2020.

Three Rivers 1A/2A – Whiteville claimed the conference cup title winning four conference championships during the abbreviated year. The Wolfpack won the conference title in Women’s Cross Country and Volleyball, sharing top honors in Football and Men’s Basketball.

Western Highlands 1A/2A – Polk County held on to their fall lead to edge Mountain Heritage and Owen for the conference cup title. The Wolverines claimed the cup with conference championships in Men’s Soccer and Volleyball while sharing the championship in Women’s Tennis. Polk County also claimed second place in the league in Women’s Golf and Men’s and Women’s Cross Country.

2A Conference Results

Central Carolina 2A – Oak Grove won the school’s first conference cup with a trio of conference titles in the abbreviated year. Oak Grove teams won conference championships in Football, Women’s Golf and Men’s Swimming and Diving.

East Central 2A – East Duplin collected the conference cup with four conference championships this year. East teams won the conference title in Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field.

Eastern Carolina 2A – Washington grabbed the conference cup this year in the Eastern Carolina 2A's abbreviated sport season.

Eastern Plains 2A – Nash Central claimed the conference cup for 2019-2020.

Mid-State 2A – Carrboro wrapped up another conference cup title claiming four conference championships, all in the fall season. The Jaguars won conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer and Volleyball.

Mountain Six 2A – Hendersonville was able to sneak past Brevard to capture the conference cup for 2019-2020. The Bearcats claimed conference championships in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Golf and Women’s Tennis. They also racked up a pair of second place finishes in Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving.

Northeastern Coastal 2A – First Flight grabbed this year’s conference cup on the strength of seven conference championships. The Nighthawks won conference titles in Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis and Men’s Soccer. Final Standings: 1) First Flight – 52; 2) Currituck County – 48; 3) Northeastern – 37; 4) Hertford County – 27; 5) Pasquotank County – 16; 6) Bertie – 14

Northwestern Foothills 2A – Patton secured the 2019-2020 conference cup title with three conference championships in the shortened year. Patton teams claimed conference titles in Women’s Golf and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. Final Standings: 1) Patton – 472.5; 2) Foard – 455; 3) East Burke – 425; 4) Draughn – 420; 5) Hibriten – 410; 6) West Iredell – 350; 7) Bunker Hill – 277.5; 8) West Caldwell – 245

PAC 7 2A – Wheatmore earned this year’s conference cup. The Warriors won conference championships in Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. Final Standings: 1) Wheatmore – 66; 2) Randleman – 56.5; T3) Providence Grove – 40.5; T3) Trinity – 40.5; 5) Eastern Randolph – 38.5; 6) Jordan-Matthews – 34.5; 7) T.W. Andrews – 17.5

South Fork 2A – East Lincoln rode a single conference championship and a string of top-three finishes to claim the conference cup for 2019-2020. The Mustangs won their lone conference championship for the year in Men’s Soccer.

Southwestern 2A – South Point edged Shelby for the 2019-2020 conference cup title. Teams from South Point brought home conference championships in Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. Final Standings: 1) South Point – 61; 2) Shelby – 60; 3) R-S Central – 53; 4) East Gaston – 38; 5) Burns – 35.5; 6) East Rutherford – 27; 7) Chase – 25.5

Western Piedmont 2A – Atkins and Forbush tied for the conference cup in the abbreviated 2019-2020 season. Atkins used four conference championships, three in the winter season, to claim the title. The Camels earned conference titles in Men’s Cross country, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field, and Men’s Swimming and Diving. Forbush won three conference championships this year, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball, and Women’s Basketball. 2A/3A Split Conference Results

Mid-State Athletic 2A/3A – Northern Guilford brings home another conference cup title on the back of eight conference championships. The Nighthawks earned at least a share of the conference championship in every winter sport. They claimed titles in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, and Wrestling, sharing the crown in Women’s Basketball. Final Standings: 1) Northern Guilford – 88; 2) Eastern Alamance – 71.5; 3) Western Alamance – 67.5; 4) Rockingham County – 49.5; 5) McMichael – 41; 6) Person – 38.5; 7) Morehead – 34.5; 8) Northeast Guilford – 17.5

Rocky River 2A/3A – West Stanly came out on top of the conference cup competition. West teams earned conference championships in Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, and Volleyball during the shortened season.

3A Conference Results

Big East 3A – Rocky Mount edged Hunt and Fike in a close race for the conference cup. The Gryphons caputured conference championships in Women’s Basketball, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Cross Country and shared a conference title in Women’s Tennis.

Final Standings: 1) Rocky Mount – 123; 2) Hunt – 121; 3) Fike – 120.5; 4) Southern Nash – 118.5; 5) Northern Nash – 110.5; 6) Franklinton – 108.5

Big 8 3A – Chapel Hill grabbed the conference cup for 2019-2020. The Tigers won conference championships in Men’s Swimming and Diving, Wrestling, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, and Volleyball. 

Final Standings: 1) Chapel Hill – 84; 2) East Chapel Hill – 78.5; 3) Northwood – 69; 4) Orange – 56; 5) Cedar Ridge – 47.5; 6) Northern Durham – 38; 7) Southern Durham – 32.5; 8) Vance County – 27.5

Big South 3A – Kings Mountain was the conference cup winner for 2019-2020. The Mountaineers only won a single conference championship, Women’s Cross Country, but finished in the top half of the conference in all other sports this year. 

Final Standings: 1) Kings Mountain – 122; 2) Forestview – 115; 3) Cramer – 114.5; 4) Crest – 111.5; 5) Ashbrook – 101; 6) Huss – 84.5; 7) North Gaston – 82.5 

Coastal 3A – West Carteret was the conference cup champion for this year. The Patriots were conference champions in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Indoor Track and Field, Wrestling, Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, and tied for the conference title in Volleyball.

Final Standings: 1) West Carteret – 68.5; 2) Jacksonville – 59.5; 3) Swansboro – 49; 4) White Oak – 44; 5) Havelock – 31; 6) Northside-Jacksonville – 25

Greater Neuse 3A – Clayton claimed the conference cup title for 2019-2020. The Comets secured conference championships in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Cheerleading, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer and tied for the championship in Women’s Basketball.

Final Standings: 1) Clayton – 162.5; 2) Cleveland – 159.5; 3) West Johnston – 145.5; 4) South Johnston – 119; 5) East Wake – 109; 6) Smithfield-Selma – 87.5

Mid-Piedmont 3A – Southeast Guilford earned the conference cup championship. The Falcons won conference championships in Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s Cross Country, Football, and Women’s Golf during the abbreviated season.

Final Standings: 1) Southeast Guilford – 67.5; 2) Asheboro – 59.5; 3) Southern Alamance – 53.5; 4) Williams – 49; 5) Southwestern Randolph – 43.5; 6) Eastern Guilford – 38.5; 7) Southern Guilford – 10.5

North Piedmont 3A – South Iredell won the conference cup for the truncated year. South Iredell teams collected conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Golf and Men’s Soccer during the cup year.

Piedmont Triad 3A – Mount Tabor won the conference cup, winning at least a share of seven conference championships. Their teams won conference titles in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, and Women’s Golf. They also won shares of the conference title in Football and Men’s Swimming and Diving.

Final Standings: 1) Mount Tabor – 51.5; 2) Southwest Guilford – 46.5; 3) Western Guilford – 31; 4) Parkland – 26; 5) Dudley – 21.5; 6) Ben L. Smith – 11.5

South Piedmont 3A – Cox Mill snagged the conference cup title for 2019-2020. The Chargers won conference championships in Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball and a share of the title in Football.

Final Standings: 1) Cox Mill – 562.5; 2) Central Cabarrus – 477.5; 3) Concord – 417.5; 4) Northwest Cabarrus – 410; 5) A.L. Brown – 364; 6) Robinson – 357.5

Southern Carolina 3A – Charlotte Catholic earned the 2019-2020 conference cup for the Southern Carolina 3A, edging Weddington. The Cougars won conference championships in Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Swimming and Diving and earned a share of the conference title in Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Tri-County 3A – Union Pines won the conference cup in the abbreviated season. The Vikings captured conference titles in Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Wrestling and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving.

Western Mountain 3A – T.C. Roberson brings home the conference cup for 2019-2020. The Rams won conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Soccer during the truncated athletic year.

Eastern Carolina 3A/4A – D.H. Conley took the conference cup championship. The Vikings secured the cup with conference championships in Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, and Football.

Mideastern 3A/4A – Hoggard won the 2019-2020 edition of the conference cup. Vikings teams nabbed conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving while earning a share of the championship in Volleyball.

Northwestern 3A/4A – Watauga collected the conference cup title for 2019-2020. The Pioneers dominated the fall season, winning six of the seven conference titles in the fall. Watauga teams won conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Football, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball and Women’s Swimming and Diving.

Patriot 3A/4A – Cape Fear wrapped up the conference cup title for 2019-2020 with five conference championships during the year. The Colts managed to win titles in Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Swimming and Diving and Wrestling.

4A Conference Results

CAP 7 4A – Cardinal Gibbons held off Leesville Road to win the conference cup for 2019-2020. The Crusaders picked up conference championships in Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Men’s Swimming and Diving, and Wrestling, while earning a share of the Volleyball crown with Broughton.

Final Standings: 1) Cardinal Gibbons – 69.5; 2) Leesville Road – 64.5; 3) Millbrook – 55; 4) Broughton – 51.5; 5) Sanderson – 39.5; 6) Enloe – 36.5; 7) Southeast Raleigh – 17.5

Central Piedmont 4A – West Forsyth ran away with the conference cup championship for 2019-2020. Titans teams claimed conference championships in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, and Men’s Swimming and Diving.

Metro 4A – Northwest Guilford claimed the top spot in the conference cup race collecting six conference championships this year. The Vikings won conference titles in Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball and Wrestling, earning a shared title in Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Northern 4A – Heritage claimed a conference cup title with seven conference championships in a shortened athletic year. The Huskies won Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Cross Country; Women’s Golf, Gymnastics and shared a conference title in Volleyball.

Sandhills 4A – Pinecrest ran away with the conference cup championship for 2019-2020. The Patriots rolled to conference championships in Men’s Basketball, Men’s Swimming & Diving, Wrestling, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball and shared the conference championship in Men’s Soccer.

So Meck 7 4A – Ardrey Kell won the conference cup by a comfortable margin over Providence thanks to an extremely strong fall season that included five conference championships. The Knights won conference crowns in Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Football, Women’s Golf, and Women’s Tennis in the fall. They also collected a share of the conference title in Men’s Swimming and Diving and Wrestling this year.

South Wake 4A – Apex Friendship picked up the young school’s first conference cup championship. The Patriots won conference championships in Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, and collected a share of first in Men’s Basketball.

Southwestern 4A – Myers Park collected the conference cup crown for the Southwestern 4A. The Mustangs ripped off conference championships in eight sports: Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Football, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving.

Triangle 8 4A – Green Hope nabbed the top spot in the conference cup race for 2019-2020. The Falcons swiped conference championships in Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, Volleyball, Cheerleading, and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving during the abbreviated year.
