In 28 years as a head coach in high school he rolled up a record of 234-63-14 with two NCHSAA state 3-A championships and a pair of runner-up finishes. At Burlington Williams his teams compiled a then-state record of 43 consecutive wins. Stout is a member of the Rowan County Sports Hall of Fame and the Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame.
