An outstanding athlete, coach and administrator, Bruce Peterson is currently the principal at Enka High School. Peterson was a four-sport standout at Lee Edwards High in Asheville and then a four-sport letter winner at Western Carolina University, graduating in 1963. His head coaching career in football included a year at Cane River High in Yancey County, two years at Lee Edwards and a decade of success (1974-83) at Asheville High, where his teams went 76-34-1. His teams won eight conference crowns and he coached in both the East-West All-Star game and the Shrine Bowl. His honors did not stop when he went from athletics into administration. The former Coach of the Year has served on a number of important NCHSAA committees, including the Association's Blue-Ribbon Task Force and its Realignment Committee. He has been named Buncombe County Principal of the Year and won the NCHSAA award for the principal contributing the most to high school athletics. Peterson has also been active in civic and church affairs.
