NEW WING AND GYMNASIUM COMPLETEAT SOUTHWEST GUILFORD HIGH SCHOOL
HIGH POINT – Alan Parker, principal of Southwest Guilford High School, has announced some special events to celebrate completion of a major project at the school.
A new wing and gymnasium has been finished, said Parker. “It’s been several months in the making, but an exciting project to watch unfold,” he noted.
Along with a new media center, and several classrooms, the new wing boasts the new gymnasium . Athletic Director Brindon Christman has spearheaded the idea of naming the new gym after his head wrestling coach over the past 32 years, Jim Coggins.
“Working with our dedicated Booster Club parents, the idea was submitted to the Guilford County School Board for approval,” said Christman. “We felt that honoring a coach and former athlete in this way was a simple gesture of gratitude for his many years of service not only to our school but to the Southwest community as well.
“We are thankful for his commitment to our program and want to celebrate his success.” Coach Coggins, who recently retired from his full-time duties as head coach, continues to coach the Southwest Guilford High School wrestling team on a volunteer basis.
The public is invited to attend the naming of the gymnasium and enjoy a wrestling match on Thursday, December 15, at 7:00 pm. Then”official ribbon cutting” will be held during the home basketball game on Friday, December 16, at 6:00 pm.
The NCHSAA thanks Southwest Guilford for providing this information and congratulates the school on this major project.
