New Football Coaches Named At Robeson County Schools

LUMBERTON—Two new head football coaches have been named at Robeson County high schools, according to reports in The Robesonian and other media outlets.

Joe Salas will take over at Lumberton and Randy Ragland is the new head coach at Fairmont. Both hirings have been approved by the board of education of the Public Schools of Robeson County.

Salas was the head coach at West Bladen last year and was an assistant coach at Red Springs in 2011. Prior to that he spent seven seasons at South Johnston. His 2009 team at South Johnston posted a 14-2 record, losing to South Point in the NCHSAA 3-AA state championship game by a 42-28 margin.

Ragland previously was head coach for three years at West Johnston and has also served as an assistant at Fuquay-Varina and Middle Creek in Wake County, coaching for five years at Middle Creek as offensive coordinator. Ragland is a 1986 graduate of Fuquay-Varina and attended Lees-McRae College.

Both coaches have indicated that they will run spread offenses that feature lots of passing.
