BURLINGTON– Defending singles champion Adrienne Haynes of Asheville made it two in a row by winning another title Saturday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A women’s tennis championships at the Burlington Tennis Center.
Both Haynes, a junior, and Sarah Jiang of Concord Cox Mill won their Saturday morning semifinals in easy straight set victories that lasted only 50 minutes. Then in the championship, Haynes defeated Jiang by 6-2, 6-4.
Haynes has been in the state tournament in each of her three high school seasons and lost in the semifinals to Jiang in 2013 before winning the last two crowns.
Jiang, who has had a great high school career, qualified for the state tournament four consecutive years and lost to the eventual state champion in each of those years, including finishing as state runner-up on three occasions.
Mary Beth Jackson and Hailee Haymore of Cameron Union Pines teamed to win the doubles title, downing Huda McGraw and Sophia McGraw of Fayetteville Terry Sanford in straight 7-5 sets.

RALEIGH– Two championship streaks were extended on Saturday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s tennis championships on Friday at the Millbrook Exchange Park.
