NAMES IN THE BOOK
Mohamed Massaquoi- Independence (2001-04)
Mohamed Massaquoi was the beneficiary of two All-American quarterbacks that helped cement his name as one of the “Names in the Books.”
For four years, Massaquoi ran up and down the field chalking up hoards of yardage and touchdowns in helping Independence win four of their seven consecutive state championships. A three time all-state selection, Massaquoi ranks at the top of several receiving categories including single season receiving yards (1,834), receptions (76) and touchdowns (32). His career marks for receptions (274) ranks second while his totals for career receiving yards (4,876) and touchdowns (76) are also the best all-time.
After an All-American high school career, Massaquoi went on to have a solid career at the University of Georgia. While in Athens, he started 36 of 51 career games. He was named honorable mention Freshman All-American in 2005 by the Sporting News after hauling in 38 receptions- good enough third all-time among Georgia freshmen. By the end of his career Massaquoi finished in the top of five of almost every major receiving category including single season and career marks for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. In his final year, he earned 1st Team All-SEC and All-Academic in 2008 before he was drafted 50th overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
Mohamed Massaquoi’s stellar high school career earned him a spot as one of “Names in the Books.”
