MOUNT AIRY— Mount Airy High School has named Levi Goins as its new head basketball coach, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
Goins is no stranger to Mount Airy, as he was a starter when the Granite Bears won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championship in 2002. He scored 11 points in the final as Mount Airy topped Plymouth by a 63-58 count.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina in 2006, Goinswill take over from Kevin Spainhour, who left Mount Airy after nine years as coach to become an assistant principal at West Stokes. Goins served as an assistant under Spainhour for three years and also coached junior varsity basketball.
Prior to coming to Mount Airy, Goins coached and taught at North Surry.
