FUQUAY-VARINA—Veteran Fuquay-Varina High School baseball coach Milton Senter achieved a rare milestone last week, according to a report in the Raleigh News and Observer.
The Bengal mentor earned his 600th career coaching victory in a 7-4 win over Fayetteville Pine Forest, as his team rallied from three runs down in the fifth.
Senter has been coaching at Fuquay-Varina since 1979 and has guided teams to North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships on two occasions, in 2000 and in 2013.
He is one of the few coaches to break that 600-win barrier in NCHSAA baseball. Ronald Vincent of Greenville Rose is the all time leader with over 850 victories and Barry Hall of East Surry, who is also still active as a coach, is over the 700-victory mark.
