MARION– Raekwon Miller had a tremendous game on Monday night in the opening round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association men's basketball playoffs.
Miller poured in 48 points to lead his McDowell Titans to a 111-104 six-overtime victory over visiting Ragsdale. His performance is chronicled in a number of media reports, including the Asheville Citizen-Times.
The McDowell standout also knocked in eight three-pointers to lead the way for the Titans, the ninth seed in the NCHSAA 4-A West bracket who improved their overall record to 13-10.
The game was close throughout, with Ragsdale leading 24-23 at halftime. The score was knotted at 66-all at the end of regulation.
Ragsdale, the 24 seed, was led by James Stepp, who had a great game of his own by scoring 43 points. Ragsdale ended its year at 15-10 overall.
The NCHSAA record for overtimes in a single game is a memorable 1964 contest between Boone Trail and Angier that went an incredible 13 extra periods.
