KANSAS CITY—A McDowell High School alumnus is certainly making his mark in major league baseball.
Greg Holland, the closer for the Kansas City Royals, earned his 45th save of the season on Tuesday night as the Royals outlasted Seattle 6-5 in 12 innings.
According to the Kansas City Star, Holland tried the single season save record for the Royals set in 1983 by Dan Quisenberry and matched 10 years later by Jeff Montgomery.
The 27-year-old righthander attended Western Carolina University and in his fourth year with Kansas City. His current ERA is a microscopic 1.25 in 66 appearances this year.
