CHAPEL HILL—Caroline Hauder of Waxhaw Marvin Ridge and Edrice Adebayo of Pinetown Northside are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.
Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Hauder, a sophomore swimming standout at Marvin Ridge, helped her team win the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A West Regional team title last week by a wide margin. Marvin Ridge is also the defending state champion entering this weekend’s state swimming championships.
Hauder contributed in a huge way to Marvin Ridge’s regional victory. She won both the 100 backstroke and the 100 breaststroke and competed on a pair of victorious relay teams. She swam the lead leg on the 200 medley relay and then anchored the 400 freestyle relay team.
Adebayo, a 6-10, 242-pound junior, had a big hand in three victories by the Northside men’s basketball team last week. He poured in 42 points, pulled down 24 rebounds and blocked six shots in a 96-89 victory over Pamlico, followed by 28 points, 20 rebounds, and five blocks in an easy 73-26 victory over Bear Grass Charter.
He closed out the week with 31 points, 18 boards and five blocks as Northside rolled past Jones Senior, 78-59. Adebayo has gone over the 1,500-point mark for his career and is being recruited by a number of NCAA Division I schools.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
